Apprentice and Greyhawk Power Up Kelowna

Vancouver’s progressive power/melodeath Apprentice in Kelowna at Muninn’s Post Saturday night. Along with them for the ride out was heavy metallers Greyhawk coming up from Seattle for their first show ever in Kelowna.

We recorded podcast episode 25 the week leading up to the show so Richard and myself recorded some videos where we discussed both Apprentice’s debut album and Greyhawk’s EP. Naturally it would be a great opportunity to sit down with one of the bands and discuss their album, live show, the band blah blah. Discuss the usual stuff that goes into making a good podcast episode!

So we did. Apprentice joined us in our first video recorded podcast! So go ahead and enjoy the podcast episode as you journey through this experience we have created before you!

Apprentice in Kelowna

As always this was a great time. I’m really looking forward to the new album(s) being worked on and it may be a little time before we hear from these guys again especially around these parts. But I do feel the next time we see Apprentice in Kelowna they will have some awesome new material to put forth for us. Having said that the set was really amazing and they ended up playing their entire debut album along with a new song. It doesn’t make for a lot of ground to cover but hot damn they did a wicked good job of pulling it off.

Greyhawk already sounded killer on their debut EP which blended everything awesome about 80’s metal into one solid record. It was something else to see them play these songs live and just shred the hell out of The Post.

Yo-Yo tricks by Joey Hockin

Apprentice in Kelowna was selling branded yo-yos because Joey is quite the talented yo-yoer himself! He gladly showed off his skills for us and now for the rest of the Internet too!

Greyhawk shreds and you know it!

Man these guys are serious shredders. In our album video for Ride Out Richard and I discussed in depth why these guys are good and exactly what they bring with their EP. Seeing them live hands down is so much better than what you hear on the album. Dueling guitars, shredding solos, fantastic live vocals (and show) by Rev Taylor.

I am looking forward to seeing what they can do with more time in the studio and a full-length album. Richard and I had a little chat with them before the show and they have some fantastic themes and wicked influences that should mash together into a really fine album of 80’s styled metal.

Take a moment to support these awesome “homage to the 80’s” metallers! Seriously, the show they put on is incredible.

Podcast Episode 25: The Strength of Fear

Podast episode 25 marks back to back discussion episodes without a band interview. This hasn’t been done in a few months! It doesn’t mean we are done with the interviews we have tons lined up and lots of people to talk with. For this episode though we pile up the album discussions to three. We discuss debut albums from BC local progressive metallers Apprentice and Seattle heavy metallers Greyhawk. Both of which put out debut releases which are both stellar in their own ways.

I’m not sure if you have heard this already but Tool has released an album. It has been out now for almost a couple weeks and that has given us time to digest it and allowed our discussion to deep into what makes this album a top notch progressive rock/metal release but the legendary Tool Band. It has taken a long time for the band to get around to releasing this album and not without good reason.

Passively looking for sponsors!

We are a busy team working on this project along with our working lives and other interests we pursue outside of metal and music. So having said that we are passively looking for sponsors to help build up our project and make it the best we can. If you or someone you know may have a product or business that would be fitting for our demographic please contact us and we will be glad to work something out! Our active search for sponsors has not commenced yet.

Terry Fox Run

The Terry Fox run is taking place September 15th at the Mission Sportsfield in Kelowna, BC. Richard is volunteering there and it would be great for people to come out get some exercise and support a fantastic cause! Registration is at 10:00am and the non-competitive run starts at 11:00am. Terry Fox truly was metal before the term was created.

Apprentice

In podcast episode 25 we discussed Apprentice’s debut album. They are coming to Kelowna on September 14th to Muninn’s Post and thought it would make for a good chance to listen to and discuss their album The Strength of Mortality before seeing their live show.

We clipped the album discussion and embedded it above for those who want to see just that section. We highly recommend listening to the album and consider coming out to any shows they may have going on near you.

They are on Spotify and also Bandcamp for those who want to support the band by throwing a few bucks their way in the digital world.

Greyhawk

A ripping good time is had by anyone who listens to Greyhawk. Somewhere between traditional heavy metal and power metal these guys find themselves the right spot of showing off their influences but not without their own flair.

Tool Band

Tool released a new album. The first in many years. 13 to be exact. How is it? What did we think? We dive deep into the album and exactly what it means to us and how it will be received by the masses of rabid Tool fans that are out there.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to podcast episode 25. It really means a lot to us as we continue to advance this project further into the realm of multimedia.

Greyhawk – Ride Out Album Discussion

Our neighbors from the south have produced yet another traditional heavy metal band! Greyhawk Ride Out review is here and kicking it 80’s style. Another release from last year that we are going over here but that doesn’t mean anything. My favorite saying, there is no such thing as old music just music you’ve never heard before. Yeah, if you are a continuous listener of the podcast I am sure you’ve heard that saying before and it won’t be the last time.

Greyhawk Ride Out Review

greyhawk ride out review

This review comes on the heels of our Apprentice album discussion which both come before their show here in Kelowna.

Hailing from Seattle these traditional metallers really wear their influences on their sleeves. Judas Priest, Dio, Manowar, there are so many influences heard here that it is hard not to enjoy this EP. For me it is Rev Taylor’s vocals that really stand out. His range is fantastic and should translate very well on the stage during the live experience.

The title track with its screaming solo, catchy chorus, fun melodic interlude and great outro all add up to a killer track. The skill level is high with these dudes. They do have a little bit of experience behind them to help reach this level with the bass player Darin Wall bringing lots of known experience with him to the band.

I’m really looking forward to seeing these guys shred on stage. I’m not deep into traditional heavy metal but I do highly enjoy and appreciate it. There is one thing I know about the genre is the bands that are nested in it always put on a great show.
